IHOP has declared it to be National Pancake Day*, which means that they will be giving away free pancakes all day! The only catch is that they ask that in exchange for your complimentary short stack you to consider leaving a little something behind for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and other designated local charities. The DC partner is the The National Capital Area Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). How can you say no to that?
Last year, National Pancake Day raised $76,000 for the National Capital Area Chapter of LLS and is hoping to increase that number to $100,000 this year. Nation-wide, IHOP raised $2.1 million last year. The restaurant began its National Pancake Day in 2006, and since then, has raised $5.35 million for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and other local charities and given away more than 10.1 million buttermilk pancakes.
*The true National Pancake Day is actually NEXT Tuesday, which is Fat Tuesday, or Shrove Tuesday, when pancakes were made so that the last of the fatty and rich foods could be used up before Lent — but I’ll let that slide for a good cause.
